ABOUT EPIPHANY

Leadership is a choice—made every day.

The way we communicate. The decisions we make. The expectations we set. How we respond when something goes wrong. Whether we're willing to listen when the message is difficult. How we hold people—and ourselves—accountable.

Leadership is practiced in those moments.

More about leadership in practice

When leadership is practiced well, people know what is expected of them. Accountability is clear. Communication improves. Trust grows. People are better positioned to contribute, develop, and connect their work to a larger purpose.

When ineffective or unchecked leadership practices become accepted patterns, the effects can show up in disengagement, persistent turnover, workplace conflict, inconsistent performance, communication breakdowns, and preventable organizational risk.

That's why organizations cannot afford to let leadership development be an afterthought.

Epiphany Leadership Solutions helps organizations invest intentionally in developing people across different levels of responsibility and experience—before they receive a leadership title, as they assume greater responsibility, and throughout their careers.

We meet people where they are, then help them develop the knowledge, judgment, self-awareness, and practical skills to move forward from there.

THE PERSON, PURPOSE & PRACTICE

Why This Work Matters to Me

I have spent my career developing people—and learning what organizations need from leadership.

I spent 20 years working inside Florida state government and much of my career developing employees, supervisors, managers, and emerging leaders.

My path into learning and development wasn't planned.

When organizational changes created a gap in training and development, I volunteered to help fill it. What began as an opportunity to contribute became work I knew mattered—and ultimately, the work I wanted to spend my career doing.

Read my full story

Over the years, I designed and delivered leadership development, worked with employees and managers across organizational levels, developed leadership programs, and eventually served as Chief Learning Officer for two Florida state agencies.

But my education in leadership didn't come only from the front of a classroom.

Years inside public institutions gave me the opportunity to see leadership from multiple perspectives: how organizations develop people, how employees experience management, how workplace culture takes shape, and how communication, accountability, judgment, and management practices influence people and performance.

I learned something that has stayed with me:

What an organization teaches about leadership matters. What its leaders consistently practice matters even more.

That understanding helped shape Epiphany Leadership Solutions.

I wanted to do more than teach another class.

I wanted to help organizations invest in developing people who understand the responsibility that comes with influencing, supporting, supervising, managing, and leading others—and help organizations recognize ineffective leadership patterns before those patterns contribute to larger problems.

Her career includes serving as Chief Learning Officer for two Florida state agencies, developing leadership programs for public employees and managers, and more than a decade as a certified law enforcement instructor.

Since beginning her consulting work in 2015 and moving into full-time independent practice in 2019, Desirée has worked with government agencies, law enforcement organizations, fire rescue professionals, and other public institutions to develop leadership capability, improve communication and accountability, support respectful workplaces, and improve professional performance.

Her approach combines the perspective of someone who has worked inside public institutions with the independence and broader perspective of an outside leadership strategist.

She understands that public-service leadership happens in environments shaped by policy, public accountability, limited resources, organizational history, competing priorities, community expectations, and the responsibility to serve well.

Her background includes six years of higher education experience, working with students at Florida A&M University and with employees at Palm Beach State College.

She began consulting in 2015 and moved into full-time independent consulting in January 2019, reaching eight years of full-time consulting in January 2027.

Why We Exist

Developing leaders. Improving workplaces. Advancing the mission.

Most people spend a significant part of their lives at work.

They should be able to contribute, grow, be accountable for their performance, find meaning in what they do, and provide for themselves and their families without sacrificing their dignity in the process.

Read more about why we exist

Organizations need people who can communicate clearly, exercise sound judgment, navigate difficult conversations, address problems, work effectively with others, and contribute to environments where people and performance can thrive.

Humanity and accountability are not competing values.

Organizations can expect excellence and treat people well.

Leadership development should also begin early—not simply after someone receives a title, inherits a team, or encounters a problem. Developing leadership capability before greater responsibility arrives gives people an opportunity to build skills they can use now and carry forward as their roles evolve.

And for those already leading, development hasn't come too late.

Leadership is a practice, not a finished state.

Experienced leaders continue learning throughout their careers.

Our Approach

Training transfers knowledge. Development prepares people to use it.

We don't measure the value of leadership development simply by what happens in the classroom. The real test comes afterward.

Explore our approach

Can someone have the difficult conversation? Can a supervisor establish expectations clearly? Can a manager address poor performance directly while preserving the dignity of the person? Can a leader recognize when ego is interfering with judgment?

Listening is more than allowing someone else to speak.

If leaders want people to speak honestly, they must create evidence that honesty will be heard—not punished—and have the humility to listen when what they hear is uncomfortable.

Can someone receive information they don't particularly want to hear—and have enough self-awareness and humility to consider that it may be exactly what they need to hear?

Our development experiences combine practical tools, reflection, discussion, application, policy and procedure, and realistic workplace situations. We help people understand not only what organizational expectations require, but how to translate them into practice—through the way they communicate, make decisions, establish expectations, navigate conflict, exercise judgment, hold themselves and others accountable, and contribute to the workplace around them.

Because ultimately, no course can create a leader.

Leadership is a choice. Development prepares people to make that choice more intentionally and effectively.

Every Day Is New Year's Day

Yesterday's leadership doesn't have to determine today's.

Leaders are human. They will make mistakes.

Leadership development isn't about expecting perfection. It is about developing the self-awareness, knowledge, judgment, and practical skills to recognize when something isn't working—and being willing to do something better.

Read Every Day Is New Year’s Day

Leaders can learn.

They can listen more intently. Communicate more effectively. Handle accountability more consistently. Repair trust. Apply something new. Make a better decision. Try a different approach.

One mistake today doesn't eliminate the opportunity to lead better tomorrow.

That's why leadership development never really ends.

Every day presents another opportunity to choose how you will lead.

Every day is New Year's Day.

Leadership Risk Factor™

Recognizing preventable risk before ineffective leadership practices become organizational damage.

Some organizational risks are easy to identify.

Others develop gradually through patterns that become normalized: unclear expectations, inconsistent accountability, communication breakdowns, gaps between policy and practice, ineffective management practices, poor transition planning, or too much institutional knowledge and responsibility concentrated in too few people.

Read more about the framework

Epiphany's Leadership Risk Factor™ framework helps organizations identify patterns and practices that may contribute to preventable risk across four areas: Operational. Cultural. Human. Reputational.

Leadership Risk Factor™ is not about labeling leaders as liabilities.

It is about recognizing conditions early enough to develop capability, address ineffective practices, improve organizational alignment, and reduce preventable exposure.

The least expensive workplace risk is the one you prevent.

Explore our purpose, mission, vision, and values

PURPOSE Epiphany Leadership Solutions exists to improve how leadership is practiced and experienced by developing people who understand their impact, embrace both humanity and accountability, and are prepared to lead with greater intention and effectiveness.

MISSION Epiphany Leadership Solutions partners with organizations to develop people at every stage of leadership responsibility—building the knowledge, judgment, self-awareness, and practical skills needed to lead effectively in real workplace situations. We translate learning into practice through relevant development experiences that prepare people to communicate, make sound decisions, navigate challenges, exercise accountability, and contribute meaningfully to their teams, organizations, and missions.

VISION A future where people consistently experience leadership that respects their dignity, promotes accountability and trust, and creates the conditions for people to develop, contribute, and thrive as organizations advance their missions.

CORE VALUES Humanity + Accountability — We believe people can be treated with dignity while being held to clear expectations and meaningful standards. Humanity and accountability are not competing values; each strengthens how the other is practiced.

Courageous Honesty — We are willing to address what matters—even when the conversation is difficult—and believe honest communication requires both the courage to speak and the humility to listen.

Development Before Failure — We believe development should happen while there is still time to make a difference. When people struggle, development can provide the knowledge, feedback, support, and skills they need to improve—not simply document their path toward failure.

Practice Over Performance — Leadership isn't demonstrated by knowing the right words. It is revealed through genuine and consistent communication, choices, decisions, behaviors, and actions—especially when leadership is difficult.

Make the Work Matter — Development should be relevant, useful, and connected to the real responsibilities people carry, the challenges they face, and the missions they serve.

LEAVE IT BETTER We believe our presence should make a positive difference. Whether we're working with an individual, a team, or an organization, our responsibility is to contribute something of value and leave the people and places we serve better than we found them.

What We Believe

Leadership is a choice—made every day.

Humanity and accountability are not competing values.

Read our beliefs

Leadership development should begin early and continue throughout a career.

People don't need titles to practice leadership.

The best leaders know when to lead—and when to follow.

Listening requires enough humility to hear what may be difficult to accept.

If leaders want people to speak honestly, they must create evidence that honesty will be heard—not punished.

Ineffective leadership practices should be addressed before they become accepted organizational patterns.

Leadership development should prepare people for situations they will actually face.

People deserve workplaces where they can contribute, grow, be accountable, find purpose, and earn a living without sacrificing their dignity.

Leadership Isn't Confined to a Title

Not everyone will supervise a team, manage a division, command a unit, or lead an organization. Nor should they.

But leadership capabilities aren't reserved for people with titles.

Read more about leadership beyond titles

People demonstrate leadership through initiative, judgment, communication, accountability, influence, service, and example. Effective leaders also understand something equally important: when to lead, when to listen, when to support, and when to follow.

We don't train employees. We DEVELOP LEADERS!

We're saying everyone can develop capabilities that help them lead themselves, contribute to a team, positively influence the workplace around them, and prepare for greater responsibility when the opportunity comes.

The Work Continues

Epiphany Leadership Solutions works across government, law enforcement, fire rescue and emergency medical services, and higher education.

The missions, cultures, and operating environments vary.

Read about the work across sectors

The human dynamics of leadership often do not.

People need clarity. Communication. Accountability. Sound judgment. Leaders willing to listen. People capable of navigating conflict, addressing problems, developing others, working together, and earning trust.

Those challenges may look different in a city department, law enforcement agency, fire station, or university, but many of the underlying leadership needs remain remarkably similar.

That's why our work crosses sectors without losing its focus.

We meet people where they are. We invest in their development. We help organizations develop the leadership capability their people, their workplaces, and their missions deserve.

That's Epiphany.
